After 42 years of business in the field of seawater desalination, I decided to wind up my company by the end of 2006. In the course of 2007, I intended therefore to end all ongoing orders for the company.
Consequently, the company was delisted from the Commercial Register in January 2008.
Initially I wrote here the following:
"Here
I must admit that I will be laying down my work with mixed emotions. On the one
hand, I will have more leisure time to spend with my family and my hobbies but,
on the other, the work in seawater desalination is simply fascinating: “It is impossible not to be captivated by seawater desalination.”
Moreover, I am proud to have contributed to the construction of the largest
seawater desalination plants ever built.
Over
the years, I travelled to many countries and met many interesting people, for
which I still have the greatest respect and admiration. These include the outstanding personalities in state institutions as well
as the extremely qualified specialists at the suppliers of seawater desalination
plants.
If I could start all over, I would certainly choose to work in seawater desalination once again."
After my before described decision was published, a number of clients contacted me in order to get services from the now pensioner Klaus Wangnick. After carefully thinking the honourable offer over, I decided to still work at reduced time and from case to case as a desalination expert (WANGNICK CONSULTING).
In the meantime I worked for a number of clients and handled very interesting projects, the latest was in 2010 the part on thermal desalination for the Qatar Solar Desalination Project. This is a multi billion Dollar undertaking and, if realized, will be the largest solar energy and desalination project in the world.
